Ohh the Republic! Can be a tough read at times, but it's such an amazing book. Actually in ten books (though books hadn't exactly been invented then).

10, whatever. They all come into one the edition I have is not very good. I have to read one passage twenty times to make sense of it.. I read a much better one, can't remember what it's called, a few years ago. I will make a point to search for it!

Not good for my small/limited foreign brain.. I would think it's available in the language of your choice.

I doubt they have the Republic in my language here.. hahaah. Besides, I'm starting to be no good in it either. I feel like I speak half of each language..

Moving on to St. Augustine's Confessions. First known autobiography written; really fun read!
Gladly have I left Republic behind...so tedious. Aristotle's Ethics was much more interesting and infinitely more applicable to the world.

I do beg to differ; much of modern ethics has it's basis in Aristotle. And modern is good? (as opposed to the good)

I just got a kindle for a Christmas present and have changed my reading habits drastically. I downloaded several classics (not least of which because they are free) and now I'm juggling several books at once.

I'm usually juggling several books at once, without a kindle (I'm guessing that's some sort of fancy but little iPad thingy) - you know, a book in each room. How does it work for reading in bed? On the train? Out in the garden in the sunshine? Just curious. (I'm also just trying to kick things along here a bit - where is everyone? )

Unlike an ipad, the display is perfectly legible in broad daylight. In fact, it looks even better in the sun, which is why I love it. (that, and I don't need bookshelves anymore) I guess everyone is mostly on PW. Probably need to find some folks that aren't already on PW to get some more action here. A "like" button on Facebook might help some.

On my recent reading list: Harold Schonberg's Horowitz: His Life and Music. Absolutely love this book; if you haven't read it, FIND A COPY!!! Anne Frank, The Diary of a Young Girl; which brings me to a not so subtle plug for this thread. ;D
