Thread to honor the great Romanian virtuoso. I'll be posting videos from YouTube on this thread of some of the most incredible playing I've ever heard. The hands of Dinu Lipatti

I'll look forward to the videos.
Bar none, the most thrilling -and masculine!- performance of Ravel's Alborada del gracioso I've ever heard is by Lipatti. In his physical prime, he must have been an awesome powerhouse.
I'm sure he took the low fortissimo Bb near the beginning (I'm at work, don't have the score handy, nor is it on IMSLP) with his fist.

What better way to kick off the video series that with the Alborada?

All I can say is, "Wow." I've never heard Limpatti's recording of Ravel's Alborada, and it's simply stunning! With some pianists, I feel that they neglect the general affect while poring over the details in this great work. Not so here - not only is every little detail etched in the listener's mind, but also the structure is as strong, erect, and imposing as one could ever wish for. (I'll spend my afternoon thinking, "If only I could play like that..." )

My teacher was at the Bucharest academy at the same time as him. I'll give it a listen later. I've got his complete recordings on vinyl.

K310 is flawless but I think he brushes past those great ideas a little mechanically.
