So I really took a dive and bought the parts I need to build a really awesome gaming rig. Gonna be my spring/summer project. Specs: CPU: Intel Core i7-2600K (Sandy Bridge, quad core) @ 3.4 GHz (turboboost to 3.8 GHz) Graphics: ASUS Geforce GTX 580 (the chipset is by Nvidia), 1.5 GB GDDR5 Motherboard: ASUS (forget the model name) w/ LGA1155 socket for Intel Sandy Bridge chips). Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws Series 8GB (2x4GB DIMMs) @1066mhz DDR3 (more if overclocked) Power Supply: Corsair HX Series 750W modular Case: Fractal Design Define R3 mid tower CPU cooler: Noctua D14 (this thing is HUGE, but it will fit in my case) The Intel K series chips are fully unlocked for overclocking, as is the GTX 580. The upgraded CPU cooler will allow for plenty of leeway in overclocking, as it is basically the equivalent of a low end liquid cooling system. In any case, this machine should provide solid performance for the most demanding games out there. Plan on getting Homefront (somewhat futuristic shooter based on the interesting premise of a future weakened America being invaded by a powerful east Asian coalition primarily lead by North Korea), Battlefield: Bad Company 2, and ultimately the much anticipated Battlefield 3 which is out this December.
