What do you all think of this still young vituoso? His recordings are great but when I heard him in concert playing the Beethoven Concerto it was absolutely transcendant. He had total command of the music and approached it with such energy (perhaps because of his young age). Maybe he was just "on" that night but it was the best performance I have ever heard, and I have heard most of the greats.

I think his Prokofiev is magnificent. Right up there with Perlman and Oistrakh.

His technique seems quite solid, but I'm not happy with his sense of pitch. Granted, Youtube recordings are probably not the best source.

I have heard similar things said of Heifetz. In fact, I have a video of one of his masterclasses where he says not to get too hung up on getting the intonation perfect.

Wow! I found a new hero. He holds the violin exactly how I've worked it out - jaw instead of chin resting on the chin rest - that's the most relaxed position. And healthy low right arm! No rotator cuff problems for him. Intonation? Schmintonation!
